Anxiety and Stress
We have identified a range of sources offering practical advice, interactive tools, videos and audio guides to support you to feel mentally and emotionally better.
General information
Whatever you need to know about coping with stress or anxiety, or just the normal emotional ups and downs of life, the NHS Choices Moodzone is a great source of information on anxiety and stress.
It includes lots of useful resources such as mood self-assessment tools, tips to overcome stress and dealing with panic attacks and much, much more.
Anxiety and panic attacks
Mind is a leading mental health charity in the UK and produces a wide range of high-quality resources to help people understand a range of mental health issues. This booklet looks specifically into the causes of anxiety, its effects and what to do to reduce it to a manageable level. It also provides some information about severe anxiety, including panic attacks and panic disorder. Friends and relatives of people who experience anxiety may also find it useful.
Mindfulness
Paying more attention to the present, to your own thoughts and feelings, and to the world around you, can improve your mental wellbeing. This short presentation Andy Pudicombe, founder of Headspace explores the value of taking 10 minutes out of your day.
Headspace is a subscription app that provides a guided approach to mindfulness practice. A Headspace subscription is available for free if you sign up as a member with Anxiety UK.
Exercise
Many people think that the mind and body are separate but evidence actually shows that there is a link between being physically active and enjoying positive mental wellbeing. Furthermore, evidence shows that being physically active can protect people against depression and anxiety as it causes chemical changes in the brain which can positively alter mood.
Anxiety UK provides clear and simple guidance on how to make small changes to your routine to help you take more exercise, at home, at work and when out and about.
Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy can help some people feel more relaxed and, in some instances, may help with anxiety and stress. Imogen Ellis Jones provides hypnotherapy and is located in Farnham, Surrey and has experience working with a wide range of issues/challenges including anxiety.
